The report
Yes. You get the Carfax Vehicle History Report for the VIN you enter, as the PDF Carfax produces it. It is not a summary or a copy we retype. Our sample report is a real one, so you can see exactly what arrives.
Carfax sells a single report to the public for $44.99. We buy reports at wholesale rates and sell them one at a time, so one report costs $7.99 here, or $3.50 each in the 20-pack. The report is the same either way.
Reported accidents and damage, title brands such as salvage, rebuilt and flood, total-loss and airbag records, odometer readings, the number and type of owners, service and registration records, liens, and open safety recalls. It can only show what was reported to Carfax, so it works best alongside an inspection and a test drive.
No. We are an independent reseller. CARFAX is a trademark of CARFAX, Inc., and we use the name only to describe the report you are buying.
Getting your report
About a minute. Now and then the data source takes longer. When that happens the report page keeps checking on its own, and we email you the PDF as soon as it is ready.
The credit goes back to your balance automatically, and you can use it on another VIN. This happens when there is no record for the VIN or the data source fails to return a report.
Yes. Each report is a PDF you can download, print or send to someone. It also stays in your dashboard, and a copy goes to your email when it is ready.
Credits and payment
One credit runs one report. Buy a pack, and each VIN you check uses one credit. Credits never expire, so a 10-pack can last you through a year of car shopping.
No. Every pack is a single payment and nothing renews. When you run out, you buy another pack if you want one.
You don't need to make one first. At checkout you only enter your email; we create the account when you pay and email you a link to set a password. It's where your credits and reports are kept, so you can reopen a report months later without paying for it again.
Refunds
Unused credits can be refunded within 30 days of purchase. Email contact@carfaxvincheck.com from the address on your account. Credits already spent on a report are not refundable, because we pay for every report we run. A report that fails refunds its own credit automatically.
The VIN box checks the format and the check digit before you spend anything, which catches most typos. If a mistyped VIN still gets through and returns the wrong car, write to us and we will review it.
Coverage
Cars, SUVs, trucks and vans with a 17-character VIN, registered in the US or Canada. Vehicles built from 1981 onward use the 17-character format.
Yes. Enter a Canadian VIN exactly as you would a US one, and the report is delivered the same way.
Not at the moment. You will need the VIN. It is at the base of the windshield on the driver's side, on a sticker in the driver's door jamb, and on the title, registration and insurance card.
Dealers and support
The 20-pack brings the price down to $3.50 a report. If you run more than 100 reports a month, send us your volume through the dealer form and we will quote a wholesale rate.
